Dunfermline's peacock aviary has been severely damaged by flooding, leaving the group caring for the birds fearing for the future of the sanctuary. The building at Pittencrieff Park was badly damaged during a thunderstorm and heavy rain on Tuesday. The sanctuary, run by 30 volunteers, cares for 22 birds and has attracted fans from all over the world. Nearly £7,000 had been raised by Thursday evening to help the aviary get back on its feet. Carlyn Cane, a full-time nurse who volunteers at the sanctuary, says the building has flooded several times in the last decade. She told The Courier: 'We've had damage in the past, but last night was really quite bad – I've never seen water like that. Where we're situated in the park, we're on the hill, so the water comes down and floods the aviary.' The group is now facing a significant financial burden to repair the damage and ensure the aviary can continue to care for the birds. The community has come together to support the group, with many donating to the cause. The future of the aviary remains uncertain, but the group is determined to find a way to keep the sanctuary open.
