Match Day Incident
During a match against St Johnstone at East End Park last season, Andrew Duff, a 43-year-old fan from Lady Campbell's Court in Dunfermline, caused disruption by standing up repeatedly. This action blocked the view of other supporters and led to an argument with stewards.
Duff claimed that someone had taken his seat and refused to move, leading to the ongoing issue. Despite being asked to sit down multiple times, he continued to stand up, causing frustration among fellow fans.
Court Hearing and Sentence
The situation escalated when a steward informed a supervisor about Duff's behavior. The supervisor approached him, but Duff appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, leading to further tension. He then engaged in a struggle with the supervisor, striking him in the face during the altercation.
Duff was arrested by police present at the stadium and later appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court. During his court appearance, he admitted to shouting and swearing but denied hitting anyone. His defense lawyer argued that Duff had mental health issues and rarely left his house except for attending football matches.
Sheriff Susan Duff imposed a community payback order with 160 hours of unpaid work and also a one-year football banning order on Duff, emphasizing the importance of respecting other fans during match events.
