Dunfermline Athletic fell to defeat against Livingston in the Scottish Championship, with the Lions taking a 2-0 win at home. The Pars went into the game with a point to prove after crashing out of the Premier Sports Cup at the hands of League One outfit Ross County. The team's league season started slowly, with two draws and just one goal scored. Livingston began more brightly with a win over Queen's Park, but fell to defeat in their last match against Partick Thistle, which meant that they went into today one point and two spots ahead of seventh-placed Pars. It was more than a year ago that the sides last faced off, and that ended in a 1-0 victory at East End Park. The Lions are hoping to bounce right back up after relegation from the Premiership, where they have had two stints since Athletic last played in the topflight. Six changes were made to the starting line-up. Nurudeen Abdulai, Callumn Morrison, Samuel Cleall-Harding, Allan Oyirwoth, Keith Bray and Dylan Lobban came in. Acting captain Robbie Fraser had the first shot just one minute in, weaving his way through the defence but skying the effort. Morrison managed to swing a low delivery into Shaw, who was unable to get a strike away. Besir Iseni was booked for a terrible challenge on Fraser as he tried to break away, despite his animated protest. A fantastic cross by Morrison was wasted by Oyirwoth, who could have hit it first time from close range but decided to take a touch instead. The ball almost found its way over keeper Jerome Prior and into the net from a deflected Tod shot, and Morrison blasted the follow-up wide from across goal. Tod forced a save in the 19th minute and Oyirwoth tried to smash the rebound home but was blocked before Alfons Amade had a third Pars shot palmed behind for a fruitless corner. Livi looked fairly unthreatening going forward, and Bruce Anderson didn't take an opportunity to pull the trigger on a shot when it looked like he had a decent angle outside the penalty area. But Pars were let off the hook around the half’s midway point when both Fraser and Morrison cheaply gave away possession deep in their own half. But Livi had their own slip-ups, with Liam Polworth passing the ball from midfield to one of the yellow seats on his right, when there wasn’t a teammate anywhere nearby. Morrison won a corner after another dangerous ball to the head of Shaw as blocked, although Pars failed to do anything with the set-piece. Shaw got the ball at his feet with five minutes left of the half and tried to manoeuvre himself round to take a shot when the more obvious move would have been to lay it off to Keith Bray. Bradly Van Hoeven opened the scoring for the hosts on the stroke of half-time, with an excellent hit past Aston Oxborough right. Abdulai’s ball into the box early in the second period allowed Oyirwoth to test Prior with a scissor-kick on target. Athletic breathed a sigh of relief when Scott Pittman flashed it across goal at the other end and Van Hoeven almost got on the end of it to score a second. Emmanuel Danso was shown a yellow card soon after for bringing down Keith Bray, then shouts for a Livi penalty were ignored when Bruce Anderson was seemingly brought down off the ball by Dylan Lobban. It was all Livingston for a period and there were nervy moments when Oyirwoth had to clear the ball off the line with a header and Anderson had a shot that rolled just wide of the right post. The first substitution was made around the hour mark, with Tod being replaced by Josh Cooper whose first contribution was a poor ground-level pass straight into the hands of Prior. Lennon then decided to make a double change, with Bray and Shaw making room for Zak Rudden and Olamilekan Adams. Another Anderson pop at goal flew wide as the match entered its final ten minutes. Adams was brought to the floor by Pittman and the travelling support was incensed that it didn’t result in a card being issues. Alfons Amade and Morrison were brought off for Chris Kane and Charlie Gilmour. The latter had a weak shot stopped by Prior, and Lobban managed a better one a minute later that had the same outcome. Robbie Muirhead’s free kick rattled the crossbar in the dying minutes, then Tyrese Sinclair somehow managed to head it wide of an open goal. But Muirhead put things firmly to bed with a well-executed shot afforded to him by Stevie May's assist. Today's attendance was 2,597.
